Artist Perspective
President FDR created the Works Progress Administration (WPA) in 1935 to offer jobs (and purpose) to millions of unemployed Americans. Thousands of them were artists. And some of the artists created the WPA’s iconic poster designs that inspired this one. We don’t know what the COVID-19 Pandemic will mean because most of us are still living it. But I expect Great Depression-era Americans had a similar anxiety. As it did for them, may a poster with simple, honest direction offer comfort and hope.
